I own a 1984 Ford Bronco II 2.8L, 130,000miles.
When I turn the key the starter turns over and all you hear is a loud tingy sound like maybe the starter isnt against the fly wheel or something like that. What do you think?

Could be your starter relay or the starter itself

Okay, Lets back it up and regroup here what precisely do you meant by all you hear is a loud tingy sound. Is it a loud grinding noise, Siren type or a bunch of crickets groving out with Carlos Santana in Belize Mexico.

Could be that the drive pinion of the starter is gone or to far from the F/P, missing teeths on the flexplate/flywheel or an intermittent clutch assy slipping-in the starter. Break it open and investigate.

Thank you guys. Well Ive never heard this sound before and when the rebuilt engine got put in the truck the guy who installed it said that the upper bell housing bolt holes were all broke off that the bolt would and could only be threaded about 3 or 4 times in. Now my guess is that the engine and tranny are pulling apart could it be possible. It starts once I get pushed by another vehicle.

Thank you for replying so promptly. I'm a mother of 6 trying to figure out the problem on my own cause I cant afford to take it to a shop and my uncle is the one who sold me the messed up engine so I refuse to go to him for any mechanic work what so ever. So do you think you can explain how to check if its come seperated what to look for when i'm under the truck. Thanx again
