Gas smell in Ford Aerostar

Hi I have a 1994 ford aerostar, 3.0 liter with around 200,000 miles on it. There is a strong gas smell and it seems to get worse when you open the window. I took it to a repair shop and they said they checked all of the lines and could not find a leak. What else should I check? I was at advance auto parts the other day and I saw that one of the symptoms of a bad oxygen sensor is a gas smell, is this true? Anyway, if there is anything else you can suggest I would appreciate it.

Probably a deteriorated rubber line or some type of fitting in the fuel vapor system, newer cars, 96 +, incorporate a pressure or vacuum test every time the car is started and runs for a while, this test is used to check for the exact problem you're having, fuel issues. That's why on newer cars always make sure the gas cap is tight, if loose it could cause a code to be generated, most likely some sort of small leak detection code, which means a small vacuum or pressure leak is recognized by the pcm. Your car year 94 doesn't have these advanced monitoring capabilities.
