Floored it and it started smoking

I was driving along and everything has been fine before this and after this. I was mad or something and floored it. I revved up high on the rpm's and smoke started pouring out the exhaust. It did not go faster. I let off the gas and resumed a normal speed and like five minutes later it quit smoking. I no longer floor it out of fear. How can I fix this and perhaps give my vehicle more power. Thank you in advance.

Hi Chris,

Do you know what color the smoke was?

This will help identify it. If it where darker in color like black or grey, then this was fuel. Additional fuel from flooring it would cause this color smoke because the additional fuel is not getting burned and it forced it through to the exhaust and was burning off the converter for a few minutes then it stopped.

If it was white smoke then this was coolant getting into the engine and getting burned off. This is unlikely because if it were a head gasket, more than likely it would not have stopped after five minutes.

If it were blue in color, then it was oil. This is possible because when you floor it and the RPM increases you could have had some oil blow by then this would get burned off through the engine as well.

My guess is fuel and secondarily it was oil. Either way, if the engine is not making any noise and functioning normally, then I would not worry about it. Clearly flooring the vehicle is not the best thing for it but doing it one time should not do any damage.

As for getting more power, there is a world of aftermarket parts that will help in that area. However, the Kia Soul was not produced to set any speed records so I would not hold my standards too high.

Thank you so much. The smoke was more black if I remember correctly. This happened last year. Thanks again.

Okay. That pretty much confirms what I am saying. Sounds like fuel and it went away so unless there are current issues, I wouldn't worry about this.

Thanks for using 2CarPros.
