New water pump installed on my truck after thirteen years of great service and over 250,000 miles. This new water pump, sold by O'Reilly's Auto and only has a one year warranty. This pump failed with less than four thousand miles on it, vehicle was not driven much after install. What can be done if anything against claim, for cost or labor costs, since I have to put another one in? Note: This same water pump, was removed from my original engine and put on a new re-manufactured engine with only four hundred and forty five miles on it when it failed and caused the engine to overheat. Could use some advice here.

Not much unless the store wants to do something, it was out of warranty so labor you eat once it is beyond warranty it is up to store, do not think law would help at all. No matter what the mileage is.

5/9/2017 @ 2:51 P.M. (Mountain time zone). Heard back from a Mr. Chris Matlock, with O'Reilly Corporate and they say anything about being sorry about their product failure, only that the warranty is what it is and mainly only is covered when being purchased directly by the customer, not when purchased by a retailer, repair shop, etc. I wonder how many persons know that? Since many shops will not cover any part purchased by the customer. Nor will they warrant any such part ! Shops have their own warranties to cover their work and parts supplied only by them. In this case, purchase was made by the shop and their covered warranty has long expired. O'Reilly's will not even consider giving the Shop some leeway, with their warranty. One year period effective, this date, 9 May 2017, I will no longer deal with O'Reilly Auto direct! I have shredded my rewards card and have told them to quit emailing me about reward coupons, etc.

Thanks to those that have taken the time to reply. The general public need to know that when parts are purchased by the car dealership or the repair shop, the warranty is between the dealership/shop and not the customer!

Yep sometimes parts manufacturers can be a little tricky they way they do things. I like to use OEM manufactures like AC Delco and Motorcraft I have had the best luck with them.

5/13/17-- Tks Ken appreciate the info. Have since told O'Reilly Corp. Where they can stick it, in so many words. Have shredded my Rewards Card. As it was, I never asked for them to honor the Part, but to give me break on the Anti-Freeze. The stuff I use, Prestone Low-Tox is $21.95 a gallon @ O'Reilly's and with the new engine, the Anti-freeze had been added, because I had quit using DEX-COOL. Good thing I purchase the added install kit and it had a water pump in it. The only reason we didn't use it at first, was
as mentioned, had only installed the pump that failed in Jan/2016. It was like, only 2 months out of warranty. My shop, did give me a break on Labor costs. I furnished the fluids. They fixed my hook-up on my CB, which had quit working (no charge). Total cost came to $281.00. Have my van back and she runs great! Was worried that some harm could have been done to the engine, when she over-heated. However, when she got HOT, I turned her off ! Again, tks for your time and the info.

Hi Ken, 5/7/2017 @ 0151 (Mtn Time Zone)

So far, so good. Repair shop gave me a lot of slack on the Labor. Had a wiring problem with my CB, fixed that NO CHG ! Since this was on the New Remanufactured Engine, it was close for the break-in oil to be replaced. Didn't charge me for the oil filter. $10 for the change, since I supplied my own oil and Anti-freeze.

As noted, I won't be doing business with O'Reilly Auto in the future! Hate it, since I had a great repore with several of the Employees at one of the stores, close to my home. Will stop by and tell them today with the sad news ! Will now shop Wal-Mart, Auto Zone or Napa. Although Napa, in this small college town, only has one store and their pricing is no where close to the others.
