Car starts perfectly when cold or hot, but in between it requires two to three tries. The engine then sputters to life, sounding like it is not getting enough fuel.
Once it gets going it runs fine. No engine lights. I already replaced the air filter and the fuel pressure sensor.

Check fuel pressure with a gauge auto parts rent it. it may be low on pressure causing this. See link.

You were right! Low fuel pressure caused by a bad fuel pump. Got a Delphi and the car starts perfectly - at all times. Many thanks!
