Exhaust Pipe problem The exhaust pipe under the car has small holes. Mechanic temporarily taped it. It's noisey and outside car gets hot

If it has small holes it'leaks replace it

It's not leaking. It's taped however I plan to replace pipe but I'm told to beware that the mechanic doesn't ruin the catalyt converter. I have no way of knowing.
Also do I replace the entire exhaust system.

Normally the time a converter has to be replaced is if the pipe is leaking where the exhaust hooks up. In pic is converter for a 2.3L so if leaks anywhere inbetween arrows in pic that will need to be replaced.

Thank you. So are you saying in that case both the converter and exhaust system would need to be replaced.

If the converter has the holes between the arrows or if the flange at rear arrow is cracked then yes. Otherwise just the back half.
