In a morning, when I started a car, I received an error on a dash: without changing gear consult workshop.

As the car is still under warranty, so I took it to the dealer (on evacuator as car were not able to move it was retuning in P mode when you try to switch gears) to investigate whats and issue.

They changed ctrr. Unit electrohyd. Please see attached photo for what's been replaced.

I did a test drive after they fixed, and gearbox was working very strange. Hard kicks into gears were holding up gears etc. And we driving on comfort mode.
I did not accepted a car and left for further fixing.

They told me that I need to drive 3,000 km that gearbox adapt and will work fine. For me, it sounds not right. Now dealer took all logs of a gearbox and send to Germany for analysis what causes this issue.

Is there any chance that something got broken in non-electrical but mechanical parts in transmission?

Is it worth pushing dealer replace a gearbox as well as maybe something got damaged in a transmission?

What would be your recommendations on how I should proceed with this issue and avoid the same car issues in the future.

Thank you in advance.

Good morning,

I have to agree with the dealer.

After that replacement, the transmission system has to learn drivers habits for proper shifting. The control unit has adaptive strategy which means it will learn over time.

There is a quick learn procedure which I assume they have done but the final learn is you driving it.

Hi Roy,

Thank you for your answer.

When the car is hitting gears and delays switching is that normal behavior for a learning mode?

Can you please advise if there is a chance that something got broken in transmission itself (mechanical part)?

Let it run out for the time needed for it to learn. You may have some harsh shifting, some slow shifting but in time it should all smooth out.

If it were something internal you would have other symptoms.

Thank you for your answers, Roy. I will have to go to the dealer and do another test drive in few days. After that, I'll try to update if something changed.

Hi Roy,

I received a response from the dealer. Germany analysed all details, and they are sending new transmission which will be replaced. Should I request dealer to change clutch as well? Is there any chance that something got affected there as well?

Is there any chance that this issue can cause any problems with an engine in a future?

Thank you for your answers.

No, let them do their job. They are the ones who will be warrantying the repair so if they did not do something correctly, it is on them.

I have only five months warranty left, so I want to make sure that I will not fall in a failure after a warranty is finished.

When they replace the box, the warranty will start over on the transmission. It should be at least 1 year on parts and labor if not more.

Ask them to check the clutch and make sure they note the condition. Then you have documentation of them checking it.

Under warranty, they will not and cannot replace something until it confirmed a failure.

This exact same thing happened to me this morning! Roadside assist says it’s most likely a transmission problem - cannot determine if its the computer software or the transmission itself.

My warranty expired in May this year so I’m going to be annoyed if the part needs to be replaced as it will cost me an arm and a leg and the car was only purchased in 2017 and only has 36,000kms on it. I’ve also always serviced on time.

Do you guys think this should be put back on them as a quality issue? Honestly Japanese cars seem to be better made! :(

Good morning,

What is the vehicle information?

Did you take your to the dealer for inspection? It could be something internal, a software update or something else.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/automatic-transmission-problems

I need to start somewhere and a diagnostic from the dealer is where you start.
