ERG Valve exhaust gas re-circulation

I have had two replaced and third that was clogged. What can be done to prevent ERG from going bad or getting clogged?

If you drive short hops that does not help but try to clean out passages it may be partially clogged. Also, check to see if burning oil that builds carbon.
