Last week I had both front tie rods were replaced and aligned. This Thursday, upon morning start up, the "service power steering" warning light was displayed on dash and the power steering was out. I decided to take the car to the local automatic cash wash. Hoping to clean out dust, while at the car wash, sure enough, before the car wash was finished, the power steering light went off and worked properly. After running for ten minutes, I turned the car off and went inside a store. When I came back out, upon start up, same issue, warning light displayed and power steering out. I thought I would try the car wash again, same result, issue fixed. I drove this time for about 1 hour before turning off the car in my driveway. I let the car sit for one minute before restarting, same issue, warning light displayed and power steering not working. I went to car wash a third time with the same result, not 15 seconds into car wash and the power steering is working once again. I have been able to repeat this same procedure 4 times without fail. I turn the car off, restart and the warning light is displayed, and power steering not working, take to car wash and fix at least until I turn off the car. Any idea what is going on here? What could be causing the "fix" at the carwash?

The water from the car wash must cool the steering motor down and allow it to start working again, or the system may just need an update at the dealer. I would call them to see if they have an update for the steering system. Also, I would do a CAN scan, you can get a CAN scanner (Controller Area Network) which will work on most cars from Amazon.

Here is a video to show you how:

and

Here is one for about $99.00 if you need it:

Here is how to change out the steering rack and motor in case you need it. Check out the images (below). Please let us know what happens.
