A few months ago, the battery on my Jetta GLI went completely dead. I charged the battery and when I started the EPC light came on. I went to YouTube and followed the instructions to reset the computer. Disconnecting the battery cables and connecting together for an hour or so. It did not work. I then took the car to a dealer. They said they thought it was the Mass Air Flow Sensor. They wanted $600.00 for the part and installation. I replaced it for $49.00 and fifteen minutes of my time. I tried the battery cable trick again and now I have three trouble lights. The EPC, ASR/ESP and the Malefaction Indicator light. The engine runs great, plenty of pickup, it does idle a little rough.

Hi,

I'm not sure what a mass air flow sensor does with stability control. LOL Anyway, in most cases when you have these lights on at the same time, it is the result of a faulty wheel speed sensor.

If you have access to a live data scanner, see if all wheel speeds are the same when the vehicle is moving. If one is different or not showing a signal, replace that sensor.

If you don't have access to a live data scan tool, here is a link that explains how to test each sensor with a voltmeter or multimeter.

Let me know what you find.

Take care,
