It's not so much as a problem, it's more of a question. I want to swap out the 3.5l V6 for a 360 small block and was wanting an opinion on it. Also, just to see if it seems possible, I think it does at least. I also want to swap out the 4-speed transmission for a 6 speed and upgrade it to stage 2 or stage 3. Let me know what you think.

Swapping out the 3.5L V6 engine in your 2000 Mitsubishi Montero for a 360 small block engine is definitely possible, but it would require a significant amount of work and modifications. The 360 small block engine is a classic American V8 engine, and while it can provide more power and torque compared to the original V6, there are a few considerations to keep in mind:

Engine Mounts and Fitment: The 360 small block engine is likely larger and heavier than the original V6. This means you might need to fabricate custom engine mounts and make modifications to the engine bay to ensure the new engine fits properly.

Transmission Compatibility: Since you're planning to upgrade the transmission to a 6-speed, you'll need to make sure that the transmission is compatible with the 360 small block engine. You might need to modify or adapt the transmission mounts, driveshafts, and other components.

Wiring and Electronics: Modern engines and transmissions are heavily reliant on electronic systems, which could be different between the original V6 and the 360 small block. You might need to modify or rewire the vehicle's electronics to ensure proper functioning.

Exhaust and Cooling: The exhaust system and cooling system will likely need modifications to accommodate the new engine. You'll need to ensure that there's enough space for the exhaust headers, and you might need to upgrade the cooling system to handle the increased heat generated by the V8 engine.

Suspension and Brakes: With the increase in power and weight, you might need to upgrade the suspension and brakes to ensure the vehicle can handle the extra performance safely.

Legal and Emissions: Depending on your location, swapping in a different engine might have legal and emissions implications. Make sure you understand the regulations in your area before proceeding with the swap.

As for upgrading the transmission to a stage 2 or stage 3, that could also be a good idea to handle the increased power from the V8 engine. However, keep in mind that a transmission upgrade involves not only the transmission itself but also considerations like the clutch, flywheel, and differential.

Overall, while the idea of swapping in a 360 small block V8 engine and upgrading the transmission sounds exciting and can potentially yield a powerful and unique vehicle, it's a complex project that requires careful planning, technical expertise, and potentially a significant investment in time and money. It's advisable to consult with experienced mechanics or automotive professionals who are familiar with engine swaps and modifications to get a better understanding of the challenges and costs involved before proceeding.
