It is showing twice as much as it should on dip stick. It started straight away and drive fine for approximately thirty five kms, then when stopped at lights oil light came on, car shook and stalled. Will not start just keeps turning over.

Did you add the oil that caused it to be over full? Drain it out and add the proper amount of fresh oil back in. If you didn't add oil, then you may have a much more serious issue.

Pull dipstick, is oil very thin and smell like gas? If so then you have an issue.
