This has been an ongoing problem with this car over the last two years. At highway speed the engine will just shut off for several seconds causing the car to slow significantly and then it turns back on all by itself and runs fine. It does it once and then runs fine for days, weeks even months before it happens again. No codes thrown. Car has been to VW service each time and they have driven it for nearly two weeks without an incident. They have replaced several parts that were worn but not broken including the fuel pump. Support ticket was sent to VW headquarters with no available data on this problem. This is driving me nuts. Any ideas or thoughts?

I believe the cars are known for the crankshaft position sensor failing. I believe VW calls it the engine speed sensor.
