So my car listed above (DE model) cranks but wont start. I was driving about 65 mph on the Interstate and out of no where I heard a faint pop sound like the sound of pressure being released, then the engine shut off. Since its a manual I put it in and out of gear and pumping the gas but it didn't respond. I got it to coast off the exit ramp but once I parked it, it would start back up. Cracks but nothing. I had it towed by my insurance. Prior to this it did have an engine light for P0400. I don't feel like it could be related since that has to do with ERG, but i'm not entirely sure. It was also burning oil. Not bad but it would emit white smoke when you accelerate hard from stand still. Anyone have any ideas where I should begin? The battery is fine has plenty of power. I'm thinking it could be the fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator. Cranks but pumping the gas doesn't seem to be doing anything. Like it not getting any fuel. Since its my old car and has been reliable for so many years I want to do what I can to fix it. At this point it's like a member of the family, haha. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hello, I'm Danny.

Yes, it sounds like you might have a fuel pump problem I would suggest to first test the fuel pressure. If you don't have access to a fuel pressure tester most auto parts stores have a tool loaner program and can rent you one. Here is a tutorial showing what is involved:

I've attached the fuel pressure specifications below. After testing get back to us with the results and we'll go from there. Hope this helps and thanks for using 2CarPros.
