engine noise

when I accelerate there is a whining noise until I reach desired speed. One shop said my power steering pump needs replacing.

If you start the engine and rock the steering wheel back/forth do you hear the same whine? If yes then it could be a bad pump but they do not normally stop whining.

Could you possibly make a video of the noise and load it on this site?
