Engine shuts off violently when shifting the transmission into drive or reverse?

The problem is in cold starts, when I put the car in drive or reverse the engine shakes and shuts off violently within one or two seconds while the brakes are applied. If I release the brakes immediately, they start to move but shut off when it comes to a full stop. Works fine on idle. When the car warms up for about 15 minutes, I can drive it, it doesn’t shut off anymore when put on drive or reverse but not a smooth shift.

This sounds like you have a torque converter that is coming apart or the TCC solenoid is stuck on when cold. I would do the solenoid first because it is easiest. Also, we should run the codes to see if any come up. This guide will help, and I have left the TCC solenoid replacement instructions in the diagrams below.

They are not showing which solenoid the TCC is (torque converter clutch) so you might need to get a rebuilt valve body or contact the dealer for the correct part number. Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know what you find.
