Hi, I have a check engine light on my car.

trying to read code with my launch diagun scanner with 38 pin adaptor, car has no 16 pin connector under dash.

i cant communicate with ECM at all but can talk to transmission, brakes. Etc, no problem.

engine light comes on with ignition, quick check of fuses found nothing.

tried selecting different years on scanner with no luck.

any suggestions welcome. Thank you, Alec

So you have a direct line of communication from the DLC to the ECM so we need to look at these lines and make sure you don't have a wiring issue, ground issue, or a terminal fitment issue in one of the connectors.

I would make sure the wires have continuity from the DLC on Pin 4 and 13 to the ECM on Pins 39 and 38. If you do then do a drag test on the terminals. You will need a test kit to do this. You can get those at most any parts store.

If you don't have a wiring issue I suspect the ECM is the issue. Even though the engine light comes on with the ignition doesn't mean there isn't an issue on this portion of the circuit board.
