I have a popping sound coming from under the truck in the area of the transfer case and transmission. I suspect a u-joint is going bad because the sound only happens under hard acceleration. As well there is no stalling or jerking related to the popping. There is damage to the frame rail that passes underneath the transmission and transfer case but I could not find any scarring or indication of damage to the transfer case itself.

Hello
Thanks for the donation

Universal joints is usually the common culprit in this situation. However, before replacing the u-joints I suggest listening closely to the transfer case motor. In some instences, the motor actually makes a clicking type noise when it is faulty, which means the noise will come from inside of the case.

Hope this helps.
