Sorry, but we need to communicate via the net. As far as the miss, is it all of the time? Is it a dead miss like one of the plug wires is off? As far as the black smoke, the engine is running rich (too much fuel). If I had to guess, I would say they fogot to reconnect the temp sensor or if it is a dead miss, they got the plug wires on wrong. Without a light on, it becomes a guessing game. However, make sure all vacuum hoses and wiring is plugged.

Let me know what you find.

Joe

I need you to check the fuel pump pressure. Here is a how to:

https://www.2carpros.com/how_to/how_to_check_fuel_pressure.htm

Your regulator may be allowing too much pressure to build. Let me know what you find. Also, you'll need a gauge. Most part stores will lend or rent them.

Let me know what you find. Also, yes... if the plug wires were wrong, it would miss all the time. But, a miss at idle should have set a misfire code.

If the problem started after the work was done, make sure they didn't forget a vacuum line. Have they checked it since the work was complete?
