Have you pulled the plugs to see if you can ID the cylinder that is running rich? this could be a bad coil, injector, plug or wire (if applicable). Intermittent shorts like that are usually a bad coil, but not always

This guide will help us

Electrical problem
1999 Dodge Stratus 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 115k miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
I got my tint done recently..lol

An when I got my car back the dash board check engine light came on, along with Various other problems...speedodometer doent register speed, then the fuel gauge is fluctuating from where its actually filled to, to nothing and back. When accelerating the car sputters. Feels as if something is holding the car back(as if emergency brake is on). However before this episode; the car experienced no problems whatsoever.

What windows where tinted? I would advise returning to the shop and voice you concerns...If a film type tint was applied, water is used and squeegeed so some may have gotten into a control module somehow.

P0700= Transmission control system..you need to check the connections at the module, and the plug at the tranny for corrosion or bent/pushed out pins. That is step one!

Electrical problem
1998 Dodge Stratus 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive 174000 miles

I've been having this issue since 2007 and I choose not to purchase another used car is because I'm a part-time student and worker plus the car I have is paid in full.

Since before my sister gave me her car, I've been having history of problems from oil leakage, water pump, fuel pump, timing belt and having to replace catalytic converter and finally a new motor. At any given daily moment, my car's check engine light will come on while I'm driving (it will jerk the car) or sometimes at idle. If idle, the car dies and I simply put it park crank it up and its back to normal until it happens again.

I don't know what do to anymore. I gave up honestly.

Have the computer scanned for code/s-you have a problem within the engine manangement system that caused the CEL to turn on-This is your starting point of diagnosis, finding out what's going on.

Go to a local auto part store and have the check engine light codes scanned. Stores such as AutoZone and Advance Auto Parts will run this diagnostic scan for free. Post the codes and we can better assist you.

1998 Dodge Stratus 6 cyl Automatic 113000 miles

Hi. My RPM needle jumps from around 1.4 to 4 when I hit 70mph. There is no gradual climb, and it will stay at 4(4000) RPM even if I speed past 70mph. When I idle at the light and drop it in neutral i can see the RPM needle glide up a little as it would normally. So I know the needle is active and working normally until i hit a speed where its required to go past 1.4RPM(1400), and thats where it gets stuck and will only jump to 4(4000) when i hit 70mph. There is no preformance decline. The car runs smooth when all this is going on, but there is a very low whistle that comes on when i hit 70mph and just today i got a check engine light. That may have or may not have anything to do with the RPM issue. Other issues, I feel a kick through my steering wheel when im stopped at the light. Its not as hard of a kick if im in neutral. Thank you. Appreciate all the help.

My first thought, being you apparently have no performance problems, is a bad tachometer unit itself. But, I would like to know what tripped your check engine light. If you would have the computer scanned and let us know what code(s) are stored, it will help. PleaSE ADVISE.

Why do you think fuel system?

IF you do, check the fuel pressure to start.

i was thinking it was the fuel sym cause it feels like its running out of gas. he just took all the injectors out and cleaned them and took fuel pump out and it comes on but no fuel comes out and we put that fuel pump in like 3 ms ago does that mean its the fuel pump?

Here are my thoughts. The fuel filters must be replaced when a pump is done..two reasons. One if will void the warranty on it if you didn't and two, it can kill a new pump if it is partially restricted.

So, assuming you did replace it, then the next thought is...What Brand. The ONLY chrysler fuel pump replacement I use is one from the dealer. I have had way too many failures with aftermarket and refuse to use them again.

So much for thoughts..Can you hear the pump run when the key is turned to the run postion from the off position. IF you aren't sure, put a funnel in the fuel tank filler neck to amplify the sound. Have someone else there while another turns the key. IF you hear it and have no fuel pressure, you likley need the pump.

IF you can't hear it, then you need to get to the connector to see of power is getting to the pump. IF power is there, then the pump is likley bad.

Dodge Stratus LS 2.5 v6 FI, 1998, 80,000 miles.
2 Front Wheel Drive, Automatic Transmission.

Starts fine but after about 1block drive it begins to miss terribly and limps home.

800 miles ago, while driving and without warning car stopped. Could not get it to start again.
Towed it home and a home-service mechanic replaced the distributor. That was his diagnosis.
Car ran well for 500 to 800 miles. Began to missfire ever so gradually, wiith the Check Engine Lite going on and off. Finally arriving at my present condition.

I can't get a hold of the mechanic and have had the car at a stand still for the past 5 weeks. For that reason and a lack of funds I am riding a bus to work.

Bought the Service Manual whic I am now reading.

Can you point me in a general direction with these details. I would appreciate it if were possible.
thanks

with the info given one of the possible problems could be is the fuel pump. this may or maynot be some thing that you want to tackle. thats because the fuel pump is in the tank. allthough you can check it out with a fuel pressure gauge. if the pressure drops as the engine starts to stall the check if the fuel pump is working . if the pump semms to be running but the pressure drops then have the pressure regulater checked out. I hope this gives you some leads.

I would agree with the fuel pump i have had that problem b4 myself. If you ever drive a car very much with less than 1/4 tank of gas an electric pump will get hot because they cool off with the fuel and eventually short out. well mine just decided on its own one day i was driving to the store and i got same symptoms but what was causing it once the fuel pump ran a lil bit it got hot and was trying to quit but after cooled off it done fine i replaced my pump and not a problem after im not gonna say it is the prob so you dont change it and be out money if not bt thats the best i can do for ya
