Hi,
2002 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab 4x4, under 58,000 miles. 5.7L V8
Just two months ago the chip that controls the tranny was replaced by Dodge at no cost.
Just two weeks ago I started to notice a slip, I guess you would call it, but I think it is the Diff or the driveshaft. What happens after tht ruck has been moving for a while, and I stop then start to accelerate the truck stutters (and you can feel a rumble in the whole truck body). Then it is fine, it is like 3 or 4 rumblers. On sunday I was backing up a hill when I started to move backwards it slipped (rumble included) 4 times and then was fine. Yesterday I was backing up and heard a metal whining noise comeing from teh rear end then put it in gear to go forward went forward and it stuttered a again a little and then was smooth as silk. Are the Diff gears worn down? Or have you seen this before?

I have the same truck, mine with 72,000 miles. I have had to have the rearend replaced (under warranty) and the transmission is now making noise in reverse and slipping slightly in Drive. I also had to replace the front driveshaft due to cv joint failure. I rarely use the my truck and I am very good about maintance, but I think Dodge just cut to many corners when they put these trucks together. Anyway, there was a recall on the rear axle a few years ago, although I think that was for brackets, but you should make sure. I had the Transmission flushed and got a new filter and fluid, and most of the trany problems appear to be gone. The rearend as I said was replaced under warranty at the dealer due to premature failure of the rind gear and clutches. Before mine went out I was having similar problems to you.
