1999 Dodge Ram over/drive

I need to know when do I turn my o/d on or off. When the light come on the dash it says o/d off, but when I turn my truck on the light stays off. Wish is right do I drive my truck with the light off. I did not get a book with my truck, and the repair book don't tell me anything what to do are nothing can you tell me

Under normal driving u should not see the light saying off
if you to be pulling heavy load and or similar things then you turn the over drive off
I would suggest leaving the light along better on gas mileage

(no light saying OD OFF. Better gas mileage )
