Why does my gas engine sound like a diesel engine when I step on the gas hard?

Are you hearing a tapping or rapping sound from the engine?

When I'm idaling and just driving it sounds great. When I step on it to really get going, it sounds somewhat like a diesel pickup.

It sounds like valve ping. Have you tried using a higher grade of fuel?

I'll try, Thanks
I had a friend tell me it could be the start of a fuel pump/filter problem. When I step on it the engine isn't getting what it wants. Fuel pump and filter are in the tank. I was going to try a fuel additive also. It's nothing bad YET
