1994 Dodge Ram Runs rough when low on gas

When the gas guage goes below 1/4 tank the engin ebegins to run rough and lose power. Add a few gallons of gas and it runs smooth again. What is the most likely cause of this?

Hi:
Most likely cause is a partially clogged screen on the fuel pump. Once the fuel gets to a lower level, it's most likely hard for the pump to process the fuel. Once you get above a certain level, the fuel runs freely into the pump again.
