I have a 1000 Doge 3500 4x4 with a 5.9 cummins engine, the trouble is this: iI use it as my welding truck and everytime I am travelling at a low speed or logging thru mud in low gear (sometimes just driving up a hill) the temperature gauge starts to rise to the point where I have to stop a let the vehicle cool down a bit or open the hood. Can you please help me determine what might be causing this?

I asked yesterday about my truck getting hot when going up steep hils and in low gear - yes the coolant is full. I have taken it too many mechanics and no one can seem to figure it out - any other ideas you have I may look at.

Another simple question. Check the fan/ electric or belt-clutch driven. Is it running?
Gotta eliminate the 'easy' stuff first, I guess. Ol'Ben

Waterpump impeller problem on these causing a flow problem have been mentioned to me. Use a new pump, may want to consider an OEM one. Also heard of restricted flow in the radiators.
