2005 Dodge Neon engine light on

2005 Dodge Neon

The light was on and was doing okay. We wiggled some wires and cleaned the battery - when we drove the car the light wasn't on. However, the light came back on; stayed on and I had a hard time driving. I couldn't go over 25-30 mph without the car sort of sputtering. It felt like the car was going to die out. Is it the battery or the alternator?

This is an indication that the ECU has logged a fault code, you will need to have a scan done to identify that code so your mechanic or us here can advise on the best action to take, start here.
