1998 Dodge Neon help me

My check engine light is on and when im driving down the road I will shift and it goes for a bit then the check engine light starts blinking and then the car kinda jerks and then when the check engine light stops blinking the car runs smoothly. Please help me with this problem

Hello, I'd check trouble codes. You may be able to get some codes by cycling the ignition switch. You just cycle the key to the on position, you don't crank it, cycle on--off, on--off, on. Then the cel starts flashing, you count the flashes to get the codes.
