1996 Dodge Neon 4 cyl Automatic

My neon burns oil, and I plan on getting it fixed soo. Today I put 3 quarts of oil in it and when I started it up it stalled right away. Now when I drive it clouds of thick white smoke billow out of the exhauts pipe. Could I have put to much oil in it? Ive only driven it about 3 miles since the smoke started, im scared to drive it. Single mom of three kids, and I dont want to be stranded.

And you shouldn't drive it
check oil level and adjust if needed
check coolant
you should have the car checked
