I noticed a small oil leak towards the back of the motor, right around the driver's side. Whenever I would come to stop (mainly after running at highway speeds), the engine would produce a lot of smoke, but it would come from the front of the motor. The last time I got my oil changed, the mechanic said it could be a new oil pan gasket, since there was a large amount of oil buildup. I have heard through several Mopar forums that the 3.0-liter V6's are notorious for oil leaks at this mileage.

Hi:
Yes it is true. The 3.0L do have oil leak problems. But what area is leaking? It could be the oil pan, but it's most likely a valve cover gasket that is bad. The valve covers are above the exhaust manifold and oil would easily make its way there to get burned. Before replacing the oil pa gasket, I recommend having the engine cleaned so you can better determine where the leak is coming from.

Also, the reason you don't notice the smoke while the car is moving is because it is most likely blowing under the car.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Joe
