Your shift lever attaches to a cable that attaches to the trans. If your lever and cable are ok and adjusted correctly, unhook the cable at the transmission and move the lever by hand if you fell it going in park ok by the trans lever, there is nothing wrong inside the unit, if its still no good, you must remove the oil pan, and check it, the valve body may have to come down or even out to check it further. All the Park lock components can be serviced by removing the rear of the transmission while it is still in the truck. The valve body connects to a rod that moves in and out of a gear called a park pawl. There are a snap ring, a plug, pin, spring and sprag all part of these park lock components and the transfer case instead of the extension housing will have to be removed to service all the parts on a 4WD. So be sure that it is not in the steering column or cable before you start any further repairs. OK. Be careful, you should use caution and safety glasses especially underneath.
