My car is basically brandnew, my factory warranty just expired, I have started to hear a knocking sound in my engine. It started out with a light fluttering sound. I took it to dodge for service at 36,400 miles and they would not service it. Now the sound has gotten worse and it is a very loud sound. Someone said my Lifters, and the engine is gone. I always got my oil changes on time, I missed one appointment and went over my suggested mileage by 1200, miles. Please tell me what this is. I still have a 550/note and 200/Insurance. Monthly to pay and I can't even drive the car.

Hi there,

The first thing to do is get the oil pressure tested with a mechanical gauge, this will give a true indication of engine oil pressure, if that is ok, a good mechanic will be able to pick the noise if it is a faulty lash adjuster or a mechanical failure, with experienced you can pick the type of noise by ear as the are often quite distinctively different.
