I have an 02 Dodge Grand Caravan Sport - shortly after having the A/C compressor replaced this summer the A/C and heat would only work on high - now that it's colder weather and I'm using the heat, it only gets hot around 2000 rpm's then cools down has the rpm's decrease. The other day the temp gauge went up to hot - temp light came on - I topped off the coolant which cured the problem for a few days but today the temp went back up after about 15 mins of driving. I read that the fan blower resistor might be the culprit for the heat only working on high but what's with the temp gauge going up?
Any insight would be appreciated - thanks!

Blower resistor is answer to fan speeds as for coolant loss if no visible leaks then maybe internal. Such as headgasket any white smoke from exhaust on startup? Oil look normal?

No smoke at all - I believe there is some leakage but only the first time the temp gauge went up. I've been told before there's a small oil leak but nobody can pinpoint where it's coming from exactly.
