1999 Dodge Caravan fuel pump

Is there a way you can check the fuel pump to see if it is working. I changed the fuel filter and nothing. My son ran the van out of gas a lot of times and I figured that trash has built up in the fuel system and the pump quit working. What should I do? I don't have the money to pay someone else to fix it and I have done a lot of my own repairs.

Check for power at the fuel pump
unplug the wiring harness turn key on you should have power for about a min when ist key on or when cranking if you have power a good ground drop the fuel tank and replace the fuel module
