When I start the engine after any stop I can insert the key but it won't turn in either direction. The entire vehicle acts as if it has frozen, something like when it is out of gas, even at full tank. After trying for about 5-10 mins, it comes live and I am able to turn the key and start normally and runs great. Any idea what is wrong with it?

Pl. Help.

Hi:

It sounds like the switch may be going bad. Don't laugh, but is the key in good condition. I have had experiences where a key has worn to a point that it no longer is functional. Have you tried other keys?

Thanks for your input, Joe.

I found the solution on the internet to this very common problem. The solution is very simple and it works: with the key inserted tap the key with a rubber mallet 3-4 times and turn the key. Ignition key may be replaced ultimately.

I'm glad it worked out for you. I had people spend over a hundred dollars for a tow and find out that when they got a new key, the problem was solved. Go to your local parts store and ask them to suggest a good lubricant for llocks and ignition tumblers. Keep it lubed because there may be a chance of the tumblers sticking. Also, get a new key made if you can.

Good Luck!
