Key won't insert into ignition

I turned my 1992 Dodge Caravan, 75000 miles 3L engine off, pulled out the key and realized the switch did not go to the full off position. It's happened like this before, and all I do is put the key back in, turn it to full off and all is well.

When I try to put the key back into the ignition, it stops about 1/4" shy of full insertion.

When I was trying to reinsert the key, I noticed the transmission lever was moving, so I made sure it was fully in park. Now I can't take it out of park, and can't fit the key into the lock.

Any suggestions on how I can get the key in, so I can have it looked at by a mechanic?

Thanks,
Kelly

The only thing you can do is wiggle the ignition switch till it returns to the normal position. Also try shaking the steering wheel back and forth while wiggling the witch. Hope this helps.
