1996 Dodge Caravan, 210,000 miles. Dependable van began "shutting off" while driving. No warning, no rough engine, easy restart. Replaced fuel pump 6 months ago, recent tune-up to attempt to correct problem (plugs, rotor, distributer cap) Accessories will stay on as if key was turned to "accessories". Now happening every time I drive. Speed not a factor, happens on highway (frightening) or secondary streets.

This is a tough one to nail, as it is intermittant and happens while driving. IT can be traced down with a hand held computer that is capable of a snap shot.

Most often I have found cam and crank sensors to be problematic that turn out be the source. I would use the dealer part for this.

Also IAC motors can cause similiar issues, but again I wuld use a OEM part. You can try cleaning it with intake or carb cleaner. Carbon issues need to be addressed on todays cars. Throttle bore, injector and intake valves need to be cleaned periodically.
