1992 Dodge Caravan not charging

I have a code 41 and my car is not charging the code says generator field not switching properly all the troubleshooting charts do not mention the alternator as a possible cause. I have a scan tool but do not understand how the circuit works how can I test to know if alternator is good or bad or if the engine control is bad

Although field control was internal, grounding the green wire, I believe, by using a jumper into the computer engine connector was full field, and output should climb. Just for a few seconds as it may damage the electrical system.K
