When the car hasn’t been driven it says “Hot Oil” sometimes. And whenever it doesn’t say “Hot Oil” and I do drive it and turn it off and if I turn it back on right away sometimes it’ll say “Hot Oil” again.

Hi,

There is an oil temperature sensor on the engine that may be failing. If you look below, I attached the removal and installation procedures for you.

Before replacing it, check to make sure there is no damage to the wiring or the connector. Make sure the connector fits tight as well.

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe

I have the same issue on a 2010 Sebring sedan, but more of an issue is that it won't shift out of first gear. It seems to be related. And this HOTOIL message appears when it is first starts from cold, not just after driving it awhile. Is it a sensor bad, and if so, which one? Is there a separate transmission fluid temp sensor, or is this coming from the oil temp sensor? 2.4L engine with 82k miles.

You might have a problem with the TIPM but we should run the codes to find out, this guide can help.

The code will tell us which system is having an issue. The location of the oil temperature sensor is in the images above. Please go over this guide and get back to us.
