sometimes it will not start or go into gear and the anti-theft light is on

All the light are on, on the dash, my anti-theft system is on. sometimes it will not start. sometimes it will not go into gear.

You need to take it to a shop that can scan it and find out if it is security system related or otherwise. With all the lights on and intermittent start/gear issues it could be just about anything. I suspect it is the sensor that reads the transponder code in the key or the anti-theft module itself, but without having it scanned it is just a guess.
