For the past 100,000 miles or so very rarely my cruise control would fail to turn on. However now it will never turn on at all. What can I do to fix this?

Caolan,

First thing to check is for any codes. That will point us to the system that has failed.

The most common cause is the stop lamp switch on the brake pedal. When this fails it sometimes applies voltage to the switch even though the pedal is not being depressed. The computer looks for any voltage on this circuit and if it is there, it turns the brake lights on. However, there is a threshold before the lights will come on. If there is any voltage then the cruise will not able to be set because pressing the brakes turns the cruise off.

So there is just enough to disable the cruise but not enough to turn the lights on.

Hopefully we have a code that can confirm this. If not, see if you can monitor the brake switch input and see if there is any voltage when the brakes are not depressed. It should be 0.

Let me know what you find and we can go from there. Thanks

I have a few other things happening so I reset the codes and the CC started functioning again. If it stops again, I'll take another look. Creating a new ticket for the P0135 issue with the O2.
