On my way to work, my vehicle backfired and lost power then shut off right away. Check under the hood and I have dried coolant on the fan shroud but no visible holes, leaks, cracks etc. Turn key to on position, gauges light up, turn the key and it cranks but won't start. Get it towed to my work, turn the key and it cranks, catches and starts to fire but makes a short crunchy noise and shuts off immediately. No water in the oil or vice versa.

Good afternoon,

I would start with a compression test to see if the engine is damaged internally.

Can you upload a video of the sound cranking?
