went out started unit ran for about 10 min went up town shut off for about 8 minutes cranks but will not start.

Hi,
If could be a few different things. Lets start simple. Here is a link that goes through the most common causes of a crank no start condition. If the starter isn't engaging, please let me know.

Let me know if that helps. Also, if the starter doesn't engage to turn the engine, let me know that as well.
