I have code p1401 and p1409, it will crank but will not start. I've tried disconnecting the DPFE sensor but nothing.

When you turn the key on without cranking the engine over can you hear the fuel pump turn on for about 5 seconds? Also, will the engine run on starting fluid?

The P1401 and P1409 codes in a 2002 Ford Explorer both relate to the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system. Here's what each code typically indicates:

P1401 - Differential Pressure Feedback EGR Circuit High Voltage: This code suggests that the voltage signal from the Differential Pressure Feedback EGR (DPFE) sensor is higher than expected. The DPFE sensor measures the pressure difference across the EGR valve to determine if the EGR system is functioning correctly.

P1409 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation System Leak Detected: This code points to the presence of a leak in the EGR system. It indicates that there's an issue with the EGR vacuum control solenoid or the associated vacuum lines that control the EGR system's operation.

If you can hear the pump and it won't run on starting fluid we need to check for spark, this video will show you how:

How does it sound when the engine is cranking over? We should do a compression test to make sure the engine is not hurt internally.
