Okay, so I have p0017, p0009, p0016, p0302 and p0300 codes. They show inactive after changing 2 out of 4 VVT valves. Inlet and exhaust bank 1. It acts like there is no spark, it cranks and crank but nothing. Help me out please.

Hi,

The codes you have indicate a lot going on. The 302 and 300 are misfire codes, and at this point, I'm not going to focus on them. Now, the P0009 indicates there is a misalignment related to engine timing. Did you remove the secondary timing chains or inspect them for correct timing? The first three pics below show timing marks. Let me know if this was confirmed.

Codes p0017 and p0017 are specific to timing on bank one. Again, we need to confirm there isn't a chain issue.

DTC Descriptors
DTC P0016
- Crankshaft Position (CKP) - Intake Camshaft Position (CMP) Correlation Bank 1

DTC P0017
- Crankshaft Position (CKP) - Exhaust Camshaft Position (CMP) Correlation Bank 1

Let me know. I will watch for your reply. Also, let me know what it sounds like when cranking the engine.

Take care,
Joe

There is a service bulletin for this condition for a bad reluctor wheel in the crankshaft. Here is the bulletin with images:

#PIP3423P: DTC P0016 P0017 P0018 P0019 P0008 P0009 - (Aug 8, 2018)

Subject:Â DTC P0016 P0017 P0018 P0019 P0008 P0009

Super session Statement

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/ConcernVehicles equipped with 2.8 LP1, 2.8 LAU, 3.0 LF1, 3.0 LFW, 3.6 LFX, 3.6 LFY, 3.6 LLT, or 3.6 LY7 HFV6 engines may exhibit two or more of the following DTCs: P0016, P0017, P0018, P0019, P0008 or P0009. Recommendation/Instructions If the above concern is present, check for loose timing chains or tensioners.

If after following SI diagnostics the root cause is not found, the following may be helpful.

The reluctor for the crankshaft sensor pressed onto the rear of the crankshaft may have moved.

Refer to attached photographs for exact location.

(It is possible on some applications to view this with a bore scope through the crank sensor hole without removing the oil pan)

If the reluctor has moved then replace crankshaft.

Note:Â If There Is Doubt About Movement or Not, Compare to a New Crank Prior to Dis-Assembly.

1= The actual measurement of a good Reluctor wheel.  Â

25 to 26 mm This measurement is from the end of the machined surface of the crankshaft throw to the edge of the open space in the reluctor. (Approximately 3 1/2 teeth)

Note: The distance can be offset either clockwise or counter clockwise. Both will result in these codes.

Note: The balance hole does not come into play when determining if the reluctor has slipped or not.  Â

A tear down is required to inspect this condition. You may want to call the manufacture to see what type of warranty you have for the power train. If you still have power train warranty it will be covered.
