Coolant temperature sensor location

Hello, I have the MK2 model. I have an overheating problem. The cooling fan does not always start which leads to overheating.

I was told to check the coolant temperature sensor first. Please help me locate it and/or advice me furhter.

the engine coolant temperature sensor is located toward the rear of the engine, Here is a guide to help you see what you are in for when doing the job.
