Hello. My truck is leaking coolant from under the truck. I can’t tell exactly where but all hose connections look good from the radiator, and to the heater core. Any idea? This is where I found coolant under my truck.

Hi Tyler, that appears to be towards the rear of the engine compartment. Is that correct? Are you sure there isn't an issue at the heater hoses or the rear of the intake manifold?

Here is what I suggest: First, take a look through the link below that explains in general how to locate a leak.

I realize you have already looked. However, from memory, there were issues with clamps that would allow leaks on the vehicle, specifically around the surge tank.

If you still can't locate it, then the system needs pressurization so you can inspect it when cold. You will need a pressure tester, but most parts stores will lend one to you. Here is a link that explains how it's done.

Also, check around the coolant temperature sensor, thermostat housing, and the intake manifold.

Let me know what you find or if you have questions.

Take care,

Joe

Thanks for responding Joe.

Yes the leak seems to be behind the engine towards the rear. I have not checked the rear of the intake manifold. What would be the best way to access that area to check?

Also when I was under the truck, where I found the puddle of coolant, I can see that coolant has ran down the side of it. So based off this picture of the engine, I believe the leak is around there, I just can't see it exactly. Is this near the read of the intake manifold?

Also all heater houses seemed good! If they were leaking, the leak would be on the passenger side right?

Let me know! Thanks!

Hi,

Yes, that could be coming from the intake or even a freeze plug. The easiest thing to do is get a mechanic's mirror and a strong flashlight. LOL I always fish the mirror between things and point the light into the mirror. That reflects the light directly on the things you are looking at.

Let me know what you find. Also, I attached a pic of the type of mirror I'm referring to. You can get them from harbor freight for under five dollars. Most parts stores stock them as well. It will make like a little easier. LOL

Take care and let me know what you find.

Joe
