Coolant Leak I saw steam coming from the radiator?

Some days when I was driving normally with full coolant level and parked the car suddenly I saw steam coming from the radiator and checked that the radiator hose was cracked and was splashing coolant. After that I went to a workshop which was 1 mile away and parked there and the mechanic opened the hood and said that the car was heating due to low coolant but didn't overheat that I must say. After that I replaced the hose and filled new coolant and it's good to go. My question is this that this is the first time it happened and I acted quickly is my engine okay as I am curious?
