Behind the glove-box is some kind of control box it looks like it has threads on one end. Would like to know what it is called and how to replace it? At least one end is off or broken. What does it control? The car is the anniversary edition. Thanks so much for your help.

Sounds like one of the actuators in the heat/AC system. There are a couple threaded rods that have pieces that just snap onto them. If your heat and AC are working okay there is probably nothing wrong. The attache image shows the programmer and the two actuators visible behind the glove box.
If it is something else take a picture and post it here and we will see if it matches anything else.
