When I get on the gas it starts to miss and wants to stall especially when I go up hills.

Based on the codes and your description, my first suspect is low fuel pressure. When both banks are lean, either it is a fuel-related issue or there is an engine vacuum leak.

So, the easiest thing to start with would be inspecting vacuum hoses for damage, leaks, or being disconnected.

Here is a link that explains how it's done:

If you are unable to find any leaks, check the fuel pump pressure. You will need a fuel pressure gauge to do it, but most parts stores will lend one to you.

I attached the manufacturer's pressure specifications below.

One question. Do you have a live data scan tool? If you do, before starting the engine in the morning, check the engine coolant temperature signal to the PCM. It should be close to ambient temperature. Also, at operating temperature, see what the short-term fuel trims are and let me know.

Let me know.

Take care,

Joe

So, the first code is for the oxygen sensor heater so that won't cause too big of an issue, but it should be replaced.

P0161 - O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 2 Sensor 2):
P0171 - System Too Lean (Bank 1):

The lean code can be caused by low fuel pressure, a vacuum leak or the MAF sensor needs to be replaced, but I need to ask, have the spark plugs and coils been replaced? I would start there to make sure we are not chasing normal service items. I don't see a 4.6 - 6 cylinder option for this truck, can we double check the engine size?

Here are a few guides to get us started:.

It’s a 4.2 6 cylinder and I haven’t changed spark plugs yet but that’s next on my list, I cleaned the throttle body and IAC, and I replaced the fuel pump and put a new fuel filter on it so far. But it only does it when I accelerate.

Hi,

Try the spark plugs and see if that changes things. Let us know how things turn out.

Take care,

Joe
