I was driving my tercel and the engine shut off when the check engine light turned on. Almost did it again but instead ran really rough for a couple seconds. Both times lasted maybe 5 or 6 seconds then car ran fine. Very noticeable at idle the car seems to "dip" in rpm for a fraction of a second almost constantly. I've done the following after I jumped the diagnosis box to get code 14;

-new cap, rotor, wires and plugs. Plugs gapped to.043
-new distributor
-compression test which was fine
-cleaned battery posts
-cleaned main ground from battery.
-cleaned ground on passenger strut tower

I haven't replaced igniter or checked voltage on igniter or ecu. Is this my next step or should I be looking elsewhere? Thanks so much for your time!

Hello,

It sounds like the pickup coil is bad inside the distributor is bad. I would get a rebuilt unit form Rockauto or amazon and replace it. Please let me know what happens.
